Weddings are all about the details. From what to wear, to picking out the perfect venue, planning a wedding can be a challenge. One of the biggest details to consider when planning your big day is what you're going to do with your flowers and florals, but don't worry, we've got your back! Check out our hottest flower trends guide for some fresh ideas and to decide which flowers or styles reach out to you.

COLOUR COLOUR COLOUR:

This year it is all about colour. Over the last few years, we have seen the soft pastel tones of whites, creams, pink blushes and hints of gold. But for those brides daring to go a bit more on the wild side we say go BOLD. Now colour doesn’t mean you need to have every colour in the rainbow throughout your wedding. It could be picking one colour and using different textures and shades to add interest or it could be colour blocking with 2-3 colours.

Floral colour blocking is definitely a favourite of ours but using colour blocking throughout your props such as backdrops, overhanging pieces or tableware décor are also definite winners that will leave a statement.

TEXTURE:

Towards the end of 2021 and still going strong halfway through 2022 is the use of texture throughout all components of your event. Whether that be wedding decor, florals, invitations etc.

Look at texture like you are creating a piece of art. You are creating a visually appealing and interesting feature to your wedding. The minute people see texture they want to look closer, they want to touch it and they are drawn to it. So, a great way you can create a showstopper display for your event is using texture throughout your wedding florals, features or wedding hire items.

We are loving the textured backdrops that have 3-D effects, loving the rippled backdrop/plinth combos and loving the cement looking pieces. And we are absolutely loving how event vendors are using a smooth surface in conjunction with a textured surface. Drop. Dead. Gorgeous!

But our favourite aspect of texture is using texture in your florals. Florals are one of the most expensive aspects to your engagement, wedding or any event. So, make sure your florist uses texture throughout your flower arrangements. You want to show off your florals (considering you’ve spent a decent chunk of your budget on them) and don’t be afraid to think outside the box a bit. Which leads us to our next point.

UNIQUE DESIGNS:

This is the year to think differently and to really put your trust in your wedding vendors. Unique and edgy floral designs along with tablescaping, bold colours and using height in your decor are all trending features for 2022. We spoke with Christina from Christina C Events who is one of Adelaide’s Leading Wedding Florists and Stylists about what she sees as an upcoming flower trend as we make our way through the second half of 2022.

“An upcoming flower trend in the flower and wedding world is the use of unconventional colour pairings such as soft greens/blues, paired back with bold tones and colour blocking. Unique colour pairings are all the rage at the moment. Be sure to be guided by your florist, they deserve your trust and they really do possess invaluable creativity.” – Christina Caparso, Christina C Events.

The options are endless so chat with your wedding florist about your style and they will give you some great ideas of how they can incorporate different designs but within your wedding style and theme.

STATEMENT ENTRANCES:

First impressions are everything right? We are seeing grand entrances dawned with florals becoming increasingly popular. A grand entrance being the first thing you see really creates excitement and anticipation for your guests and what better way to enter your event or wedding as a bride or groom walking through an extravagant floral entrance.

ARTIFICIAL/EVERLASTING FLOWERS:

Artificial or everlasting flowers is definitely becoming a very popular choice and while we love fresh flowers, unfortunately the big C word has made life difficult for the flower industry. Flower prices have soared through the roof and it has been quite difficult for wedding florists to be able to secure specific flowers and colours.

Silk, real-to-touch or preserved flowers are a great alternative if you are set on a specific type of flower or colour to guarantee you will get that look you want for your wedding. And to be honest, if done well, your guests will not even know they aren't real AND you get to keep them forever. You could choose to have a complete arrangement made with artificial or preserved flowers or use a combination of artificial and fresh flowers in your wedding arrangements.

Speak to your florist about these options and you might even find that depending on the type of flowers you want, it will be much cheaper to go down this route.

So what's the take home message?

Florals are definitely an important part of events, especially weddings so it is important to take a bit of time to really think about how you want to showcase your florals. And while there are always new trends coming out and while we love seeing how the florist industry evolves over the years, one piece of advice we will give you is to really be yourself and stick to what you love.

At the end of the day, you're the one looking back at your photos and you want to love how your day was so don’t pick a style JUST because it’s trending, pick a style that represents you and something you won't regret later on.
